La 1ª edizione dell’International Piano Concerto Competition “PAOLO SPAGNOLO” si propone come un nuovo e prestigioso appuntamento nel panorama musicale internazionale, dedicato alla valorizzazione dei talenti pianistici. Il Concorso è aperto a pianisti di tutte le nazionalità e senza limiti
d’età. Si svolgerà dal 11-14 giugno 2026 nella suggestiva cornice di PRAIA a MARE, offrendo ai partecipanti un’esperienza artistica di alto profilo a stretto contatto con l’orchestra.
The 1st edition of the International Piano Concerto Competition “PAOLO SPAGNOLO” is set to become a new and prestigious event on the international music scene, dedicated to promoting outstanding piano talent. The competition is open to pianists of all nationalities and has no age limit. It will take place from June 11th to 14th, 2026, in the enchanting setting of PRAIA a MARE, offering participants a high-level artistic experience in close collaboration with the orchestra.
Paolo Spagnolo (Napoli, 1930–2012) è stato un pianista italiano di grande talento, avviato alla musica dal padre. Bambino prodigio, si esibì già a cinque anni e a sette fu in tournée negli Stati Uniti, dove anche Rachmaninof volle ascoltarlo. Tornato a Napoli, studiò al Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella e fu seguito da importanti personalità come Maria José, Gieseking, Casella e Michelangeli. Ottenne il diploma con quattro anni d’anticipo per meriti eccezionali.
A diciassette anni vinse il Concorso internazionale di Ginevra. Negli anni Cinquanta si esibì nei principali teatri del mondo e incise dischi per Cetra e Decca. Negli anni Sessanta lasciò la carriera concertistica per dedicarsi all’insegnamento. Pubblicò il libro “Pianosophia” sulla tecnica pianistica e, dal 1990 al 2004, tornò a incidere CD con opere di grandi compositori. La sua arte è stata definita di grande sensibilità e profondità interpretativa. Amava trascorrere le estati a Praia a Mare.
Paolo Spagnolo (Naples, 1930–2012) was a highly talented Italian pianist, introduced to music by his father. A child prodigy, he performed in public at the age of five and, by seven, was already on tour in the United States, where even Rachmaninoff wanted to hear him play. Upon returning to Naples, he studied at the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory and was mentored by prominent figures such as Maria José, Gieseking, Casella, and Michelangeli. He graduated four years early due to his exceptional achievements.
At seventeen, he won the International Competition in Geneva. In the 1950s, he performed in the world’s leading theaters and recorded albums for Cetra and Decca. In the 1960s, he left his concert career to devote himself to teaching. He published the book “Pianosophia” on piano technique and, from 1990 to 2004, returned to recording CDs featuring works by great composers. His artistry has been described as deeply sensitive and interpretatively profound. He loved spending his summers in Praia a Mare.
